Emeritus Professor George Burt
I was appointed Professor of Strategy at the University of Stirling Management School in May 2013 retiring in 2021. Prior to be appointed at the University of Stirling Management School I spent over twenty years at the University of Strathclyde Business School, where we established and developed the Centre for Scenario Planning & Futures Studies (CSP&FS). CSP&FS hosted several international conferences on organisational foresight; undertook several large scenario research projects; and hosted a number of training workshops for those interested in scenario planning and futures studies. Prior to joining Strathclyde Business School in September 1993, I qualified as a chartered accountant and also spent a number of years working with a large UK consultancy practice.

My experience
Over a thirty-year period, I have gained extensive experience teaching business strategy covering strategic analysis and strategy workshops, the scenario planning process in both a business strategy context and a non-business context. This experience was at undergraduate, postgraduate, executive MBA levels. As well as teaching at the University of Stirling Management School and the University of Strathclyde Business School, I have also taught Scenarios and Strategy as University of Curtin Business School and University of Western Australia Business School on their executive MBA programmes.
Throughout this period, I have consulted with a diverse range of organisations, covering private sector organisations such as Shell Global Solutions, PayPal, PETRONAS Malaysia, Edrington Group, de Beers, DoosanBabcock, Lloyds Registry Quality Assurance, Caledonian Paper plc.; and public sector organisations such as Plan International, Confederation of Forrest Industries UK (CONFOR), Scottish Environmental Protection Agancy (SEPA), Stirling Council, City of Glasgow Council and Dumfries and Galloway Council. Other organisations where I have consulted include World Bank, ProRail NV, Church of Scotland, and many small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), delivering strategy and scenario workshops.
